Christian Financial: A Safe and Secure Place for your Funds

Your credit union is keeping your money safe.
 
To our members and depositors:

As you may be aware, Silicon Valley Bank (SVB) was closed recently by the California Department of Financial Protection & Innovation and placed into receivership with the FDIC, the bank’s insurer. I am communicating to you today to make you aware that your credit union, Christian Financial CU, is very different than SVB.  As a community credit union, Christian Financial remains very well capitalized and positioned to serve you and all of our members.   We were chartered 73 years ago and remain committed and prepared to serve our members and communities for generations to come. Our deposits are federally insured by the NCUA, a government agency.

How are we different than SVB?
  1. Our balance sheet is very different than how SVB’s balance sheet was structured.
  2. SVB deposits were very large deposits, primarily from large Venture Capital funds and their related companies.  
  3. Nearly all our members’ deposits are insured versus SVB who had 90% of their deposits uninsured.  
  4. SVB’s recent growth was very quick in comparison to our continued normal paced growth year over year.
  5. Our liquidity position is strong.
  6. We have tools that provide us guidance on ensuring liquidity and managing our balance sheet to ensure you always have access to your funds should you need them.
Additionally, while it was initially reported that the SVB depositors would have a delay in getting access to their funds, all depositors were notified they will be made whole, evidencing the continued strong and solid structure of the U.S. financial system.

As not-for-profit financial cooperatives, credit unions' first priority is the people we serve. In addition:
 
  • Credit union deposits are insured, safe and secure.
  • Deposits are insured up to $250,000 per individual depositor - the same level as any federally insured financial institution.
  • Credit union members have never lost a penny of insured savings at an insured credit union.
